The actor, who next stars in "Crazy, Stupid, Love," was the target of Clooney's pranks on the set of "The Ides of March."

George Clooney is one of Hollywood's most notorious pranksters, and Ryan Gosling found that out firsthand on the set of their upcoming movie The Ides of March.

"He will come up to you and tell you something very serious ... and then he'll walk away and you realize your pants are wet," Gosling told Extra. "He's had like an Evian spray bottle. He's been spraying your crotch the whole time."

But there are no hard feelings, Gosling insisted.

"He's hard to be around, so handsome, smart, charming, funny," Gosling quipped.

Ides of March, which Clooney also directed and co-wrote based on Beau Willimon's play Farragut North, follows a young press secretary who falls prey to dirty backroom politics as he works to get his candidate elected in a tight race. It opens in October.

But first, Gosling hits theaters in Crazy, Stupid, Love, which stars Steve Carell as a straight-laced fortysomething whose live unravels when he learns that his wife has cheated and wants a divorce.

The actor said it was good to take on a lighter movie after the intensity of Blue Valentine.

"I was pretty stressed out," he said. "My doctor wrote me a prescription and said do a comedy, so I did, and I do feel better."

Crazy, Stupid, Love opens July 29.
