Ryan Murphy Added to PromaxBDA Lineup

Ryan Murphy, co-creator of Fox’s hit musical comedy Glee and FX's American Horror Story, has been confirmed as a speaker at the PromaxBDA Conference, taking place June 12-14 in Los Angeles.

“Few who have had such a seismic, global impact on television, film and storytelling are as dedicated and involved in marketing and promotion as Ryan Murphy,” said Jonathan Block-Verk, president and CEO of PromaxBDA International.

According to an announcement Wednesday, Murphy will talk about what inspires him and drives a show’s success and provide insight on his experience and involvement with marketing and promotion on all of his productions.

Murphy, who began his career as a journalist, became a screenwriter during the 1990s. In 2006, he moved into movies as writer, director and producer of Running With Scissors. In 2010, he directed Julia Roberts in Eat Pray Love. His next film will be The Normal Heart, starring Roberts and Mark Ruffalo.

Murphy is best known for his work in TV. Glee has become a breakout hit, earning him an Emmy as a director and five other nominations. He was also a writer and director on FX’s Nip/Tuck and is producer, writer and director on American Horror Story.

The annual conference probes the areas of marketing, promotion and design. Panels are designed for executives to share ideas, learn new techniques, develop tools and get insight on the latest technologies.

Previously announced speakers include Betty White; John Landgraf, president and GM of FX Networks; Kay Madati, head of entertainment marketing at Facebook; Pam Kaufman, CMO at Nickelodeon Networks; actor/comedian Tom Kenny, the voice of SpongeBob SquarePants; Rick Haskins, executive vp marketing and digital programs at The CW; Suzanne Kolb, president of E! Entertainment; Chris McCumber, co-president of USA Network; and Paula Kerger, president and CEO of PBS.
