Ryan Seacrest renews with Comcast
Network group gets first-look rights to all his projectsRyan Seacrest has re-upped with Comcast Entertainment Group, signing a new three-year contract that expands on the multihyphenate's original development deal.
Seacrest will continue to serve as managing editor and lead anchor of "E! News" while retaining his position as executive producer and host of the network's "Live From the Red Carpet" specials.
The new pact bolsters Comcast's 2006 deal with the "American Idol" host by giving the network group first-look rights to all projects developed by Ryan Seacrest Prods. The production company now will develop programming for the entire range of Comcast nets, including E!, Style Network, G4, Versus, the Golf Channel, Exercise TV, FearNet, Comcast Sportsnet and PBS Kids Sprout.
The previous agreement, which spoke only to projects for E! and Style, made Seacrest $21 million richer; Comcast would not comment on the financials of the renewal. Under the terms of the new deal, Comcast retains first-look rights through August 2011, while Seacrest's on-air duties with E! are covered through 2012.
News of the Comcast deal came one day after it was announced that Adam Sher was leaving WMA to run Ryan Seacrest Prods. as CEO.
In addition to his E! duties, Seacrest also retains his radio gigs, staying on as host of the weekly syndicated "American Top 40" countdown and his morning drivetime show on KIIS-FM Los Angeles. As a bonus, E! will receive promotional consideration on Seacrest's radio programs.
Seacrest also will continue to host Fox's "Idol" and has a long-term deal in place to executive produce and co-host the annual telecast "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest."
