SAG-AFTRA Merger Committees to Meet June 17–19 (Exclusive)
The first meeting of the committees developing a plan for merging Hollywood's two actors' unions will take place at an AFL-CIO labor college.
The SAG-AFTRA merger process, which has moved forward in preliminary stages over the last five months, now shifts into higher gear: the first joint meeting of the unions’ merger committees is scheduled for June 17-19, SAG and AFTRA confirmed in a statement exclusive to THR.
The meeting will take place at the National Labor College in Silver Spring, MD, outside of Washington, DC.
The meeting agenda isn't final, but it’s understood to include planning and logistics for the process of developing a merger plan. That plan is to be presented to the unions’ board in January 2012. The committees may also consult at the meeting with experts on union mergers generally, although no experts are confirmed as yet.
The National Labor College serves the educational needs of the labor movement. It is the only college of its kind in the United States and is affiliated with the AFL-CIO. It offers bachelors degrees and a variety of other programs and courses.
The meeting was first disclosed, without confirmation or specifics as to date, agenda or exact location, in a message from United Screen Actors Nationwide, a SAG political group.
