SAG Awards Fashion: Red-Carpet Rule Breakers

Kerry Washington, Emma Thompson and Julia Roberts took awards circuit fashion risks that paid off big-time.

This year's SAG Awards at the Shrine Auditorium presented a plethora of eye-catching styles -- gowns with embellished necklines, dresses with modern, edgy cuts and strapless sequined numbers -- but not every actress decided to step out in standard red-carpet fashion.

Scandal star Kerry Washington stood out in her own way with a custom fuchsia Prada crop top paired with a midnight blue, high-waisted silk skirt to accentuate her lovely baby bump. Although a crop top is typically saved for a more casual occasion, the details on Washington's made it fit for a red carpet -- embellishments of hand-embroidered crystals, paillettes and tiny flowers.

Julia Roberts, nominated for her role in August: Osage County, kept it cool and comfy -- while still looking glamorous -- in a dark pink Valentino jumpsuit. Yes, a jumpsuit. And we dig it.

And while it's usually expected that actresses will step out on the red carpet in heels, Emma Thompson decided otherwise, instead wearing a sophisticated pair of gold Christian Louboutin gold flats. We're not too surprised by her decision, considering she did go barefoot when presenting the Golden Globe award for best screenplay, which was given to Spike Jonze's Her. Even if she decided not to wear heels to the SAG Awards, we're glad she stayed with the Louboutin shoe game.
