SAG Awards TV: 'Modern Family' Leads Nominations, 'Homeland' Snubbed

Emmy darling Modern Family topped the TV nominees for the 18th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, which were unveiled Wednesday morning.

The ABC comedy collected five nominations for best comedy ensemble, acting mentions for Ty Burrell, Eric Stonestreet, Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara. The series from Christopher Lloyd and Steve Levitan had a pair of acting noms in both categories for the second year running, with Burrell subbing for co-star Ed O'Neill and Bowen breaking into the mix this year.

NBC's 30 Rock and Showtime's Dexter were second, with three noms apiece -- both series scoring mentions in their respective comedy and acting series categories as well as noms for leads Tina Fey and Michael C. Hall.

Freshman series breaking into the mix included USA Network drama Suits, which picked up an acting nom for Patrick J. Adams, and FX horror thriller American Horror Story, which earned Jessica Lange her third SAG Award nomination overall. HBO's epic fantasy drama Game of Thrones also was among the newcomers this year, earning mentions in the drama ensemble category and for its stunt work.

The actors branch gave farewell mentions to Steve Carell, whose The Office also was nominated in the comedy series field; and NBC/DirecTV's Friday Night Lights' Kyle Chandler. Carell left the NBC comedy last season, while FNL ended its five-season run.

SAG Awards Nominations: The Complete List

Showtime's rookie terrorism drama Homeland, a critical favorite popping up on several of the best of 2011 lists, was completely shut out, as was NBC's Emmy-nominated comedy Parks and Recreation.

The Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons -- who has taken home the Emmy in the comedy actor category for the past two years -- was also snubbed, while the CBS comedy earned its first SAG ensemble series mention.

House's Hugh Laurie, a six-time nominee, also failed to collect a nomination this year.

Emmy's best comedy actress Melissa McCarthy also was overlooked for Mike and Molly, picking up a film mention for her breakout performance in Judd Apatow's Bridesmaids. Meanwhile, Glenn Close was a double nominee, picking up acting noms on the TV and film side for her roles in FX/DirecTV's Damages and Albert Nobbs.

STORY: 'The Help' Leads Screen Actors Guild Awards Nominations

Hot in Cleveland's Betty White, who picked up a SAG Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010, was a repeat nominee for her TV Land role and also picked up a mention in the movie or miniseries category for The Lost.

HBO's Boardwalk Empire, last year's drama ensemble winner, earned a repeat nomination, as did the gangster drama's star and last year's victor, Steve Buscemi.
