Stallone’s family met with officials from the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office Tuesday to discuss fears that Stallone had been overmedicated, ABC News reports. The 36-year-old son of Sylvester Stallone was likely taking powerful painkillers after having dental surgery weeks before his death.

Sasha Czack, the action star’s first wife and Sage’s mother, told the New York Post that her son had five teeth extracted two weeks before his death, though she warned him against the surgery.

“I told him not to do that. I’ve heard about people dying having multiple procedures done to your mouth,” Czack said. Asked if Sage were taking painkillers, she replied, “Wouldn’t you be?”

Authorities found painkillers and empty pill bottles in Stallone's apartment, and detectives are attempting to determine who prescribed the painkillers. They do not know if the pills had any role in the death.

ABC News reports it might be weeks before the official cause of death is known, and the results of Stallone’s toxicology tests may take up to six weeks to come in. The autopsy was completed Sunday.

Stallone played Rocky Balboa’s son in Rocky V and also appeared with his father in the 1996 disaster film Daylight.

The elder Stallone, who received the news while at Comic-Con to promote The Expendables 2, has since released a statement to TMZ requesting an end to “speculation and questionable reporting” over his son’s death. “This agonizing loss will be felt for the rest of our lives. Sage was our first child and the center of our universe and I am humbly begging for all to have my son's memory and soul left in peace,” he said.
