Former Style Media President Salaam Coleman Smith Joins ABC Family
She has been tapped as executive vp strategy and programming in the recently restructured business unit.
Salaam Coleman Smith is joining ABC Family.
The former Style Media president has been tapped to lead the recently restructured business strategy, planning and development and scheduling and acquisitions unit as executive vp strategy and programming. Smith will report to Tom Ascheim, president of ABC Family.
In her position, Coleman Smith is tasked with directing long-term growth strategies and opportunities for ABC Family, including key business and creative alliances and multiplatform content expansion. She will oversee strategy, business development, program planning and acquisitions on all platforms. Coleman Smith also will partner with the Disney-ABC Television Group leadership team in evaluating and forming new initiatives for the network.

The news comes one week after ABC Family's programming chief Kate Juergens exited her post and following an internal restructuring, prompting the departure of Lynn Stepanian, senior vp acquisitions and scheduling. A search for Juergens' replacement is still underway.
Coleman Smith was most recently president of strategic initiatives for NBCUniversal's Cable Entertainment Group, and prior to that, she was president of Style Media. Before that, she was senior vp programming for E! and Style Network and had a 10-year run at MTV Networks where she was vp programming for Nickelodeon and Nick at Nite.
Coleman Smith is a Stanford University graduate with a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering.
