Sales vet Kubota bolts CanWest for CTV

TORONTO -- Canadian broadcaster CTV on Monday said it has poached veteran advertising sales executive Brad Kubota from rival CanWest Media.

Toronto-based CTV said it has hired Kubota as vp of sales for its over-the-air TV stations, effective March 24.

Kubota jumps ship from rival CanWest, where he was promoted to senior vp revenue and inventory management on Jan. 29.

The promotion came as CanWest unveiled a new sales team assembled in the wake of its acquisition of rival Alliance Atlantis Communications.

In that new role at CanWest, Kubota was to identify and develop revenue-generating strategies for Global and E!, the broadcaster's twin national TV networks, and 21 specialty channels.

"Brad is an excellent addition to our sales team," said Rita Fabian, executive vp of sales and marketing. "His breadth of experience and sales expertise fortifies our strong sales force, and he'll be a perfect coach for developing talent."

CTV is Canada's primetime ratings leader on the strength of such primetime hits as the "CSI" and "Law and Order" franchises as well as "American Idol."
