Costume Designer Salvador Perez to Outfit 'Pitch Perfect 2'
The designer behind "The Mindy Project," who designed for the 2012 musical comedy, will return and work on the outfits for Elizabeth Banks' feature directorial debut.
Following the announcement that Elizabeth Banks will be directing Pitch Perfect 2, there's more exciting news: Costume designer Salvador Perez (who worked on the first film) will return to outfit the sequel's wardrobe.
Perez, who dresses Mindy Kaling in colorful, vibrant prints on The Mindy Project, was asked by Banks to return for the second film.
"Elizabeth Banks and I go back to Kevin Smith's Zack and Miri Make a Porno. We hit it off and she started calling me to design some shorts and a PSA for the Red Cross that she was directing," Perez wrote to Pret-a-Reporter by email, explaining how his relationship with Banks led him to design for Pitch Perfect. "When she produced Pitch Perfect, she brought me in to costume design. I knew she wanted to start directing, so I was overjoyed when we were told she was directing the sequel!"
He received the offer to design for the musical comedy's sequel about a month ago, and says he will start working on the costumes at the end of March. Pitch Perfect 2 will hit theaters May 15, 2015, with Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson set to return for the musical comedy's sequel.
The designer also added that if it weren't for a certain Pitch Perfect castmember, he might not have been given the opportunity to work on The Mindy Project.
"I was referred to Mindy Kaling by Anna Camp, who I met on Pitch Perfect," noted Perez, who serves as the Costume Designers Guild president. "Anna played Mindy's BFF (Gwen Grandy) in season 1."
Yep, you better aca-believe it.
