Sam Claflin Signs up for 'The Quiet Ones'
The rising British actor, who had a role in the most recent "Pirates of the Caribbean," will star alongside Jared Harris in the Hammer horror movie directed by John Pogue.
LONDON – Rising Brit star Sam Claflin has signed up to star opposite Jared Harris in John Pogue's supernatural thriller The Quiet Ones.
Claflin will play alongside Harris in the movie which details the story – inspired by true events -- of an unorthodox but charismatic professor who uses controversial methods and leads his best students off the grid to take part in a dangerous experiment: to create a poltergeist from negative human energy.
Scripted by Tom DeVille with revisions by Craig Rosenberg, Oren Moverman and most recently Pogue, the movie is currently in pre-production and will start shooting in June 2012 in the U.K.
The movie marks the next film from British production banner Hammer Films, part of Exclusive Media Group, which recently broke local box office records with The Woman In Black, starring Daniel Radcliffe.
James Gay-Rees (Senna) will produce in association with L.A. based banner The Traveling Pictures Show Company.
Hammer parent company Exclusive Media’s president of worldwide production and acquisitions Tobin Armbrust will oversee production alongside director of development Shira Rockowitz.
Alex Walton, president of international sales and distribution will be scaring up interest in the movie during the upcoming Marche du Film while TPSC Film's president Steven Chester Prince is a producer on the project for the newly formed independent film division of TPSC.
Exclusive Media vice chairman and Hammer president and CEO Simon Oakes and Guy East and Nigel Sinclair, co-chairmen of Exclusive Media, Hammer’s parent company, announced Harris’s hire.
Claflin recently starred in Disney’s latest installment of the hit adventure fantasy franchise Pirates of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, BBC TV drama White Heat and Channel 4’s TV show Any Human Heart.
He will next be seen in Universal’s Snow White and The Huntsman, starring opposite Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart, to be rolled out across the U.K. and the U.S. from June 1.
Claflin's casting was announced by Hammer president and CEO and Exclusive Media vice-chairman Simon Oakes and Guy East and Nigel Sinclair, co-chairmen of Exclusive Media.
