Sam Smith Gets Married and Grieves in His Heartbreaking Video for "Lay Me Down"

Sam Smith's new music video is set in a church and is full of emotions.

Sam Smith's new music video for "Lay Me Down" is an emotional roller coaster.

The singer soulfully sings in a church, in front of a casket at a candlelit funeral. Just when the situation seems completely somber, the video flashes to a joyful white wedding, set in the same spot as the funeral.

Smith provided some context for the video when he posted it on his Facebook page. "This song holds a very dear place in my heart," wrote Smith. "With this video, myself and Ryan Hope, the director, have decided to make a statement and showcase something we passionately believe in. This video shows my dreams that one day gay men and women and transgendered men and women all over the world, like all our straight families and friends, will be able to get married under any roof, in any city, in any town, in any village, in any country. I hope you enjoy it. I love you all."
