Columbia Pictures is in the process of scooping up Judd Apatow, Robert Smigel and Adam Sandler's script "You Don't Mess With the Zohan," with Sandler attached to star.

The comedy, developed at Revolution Studios from an original screenplay by Apatow, Smigel and Sandler, follows the exploits of a Mossad agent who fakes his death so he can move to New York and become a hair stylist. Smigel is penning a rewrite.

Shooting will begin in the summer in Los Angeles and New York for a summer 2008 release.

Happy Madison will produce through their Sony-based shingle.

Sandler, who most recently teamed with Sony on the comedy "Click," next appears in the comedy "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry." He is repped by Endeavor, Brillstein-Grey and attorney Scott Sandler.

Apatow's recent writing credits include "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" and "Fun With Dick and Jane." He is repped by UTA, Mosaic Media and attorneys Sam Fischer and Bryan Wolf.

Smigel, the creator of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, also writes the ribald ani sketch "The Ambiguously Gay Duo." His recent film writing credits include "Chuck and Larry."

Smigel is repped by CAA.
