It's Official: Sara Haines Joins 'The View' as Season 20 Co-Host
The long-running ABC series will also celebrate its two decades on the air with a primetime special.
The View has made Good Morning America's Sara Haines an official co-host for the ABC talk show's upcoming 20th season, it was announced on Wednesday.
Haines has been in talks for a permanent role on the daytime series for at least the past two months and has frequently appeared as a guest co-host since full-time co-host Michelle Collins left the series after one season.
Haines is an ABC News correspondent and the pop news anchor for GMA's weekend editions. Prior to joining ABC in 2013, she worked for NBC's Today.
The View, which has gone through a number of co-hosts in recent seasons, will keep most of the same co-hosts from its 19th season into the 20th season (indeed Collins is the only departure), including Fuller House star Candace Cameron Bure and controversial co-host Raven-Symone. Joy Behar and Paula Faris will also return for season 20 with moderator Whoopi Goldberg continuing in that role for next season as well.
The View also told viewers to expect frequent appearances during season 20 by regular guest co-hosts Jedediah Bila and Sunny Hostin, who have become almost daily fixtures at the show's "Hot Topics" table this summer. Bila is a Fox News analyst while Hostin serves as ABC News' senior legal correspondent.
The 20th season is set to begin on Sept. 6, with the show celebrating its two decades on the air with a primetime special (The View: 20 Years In the Making) on Tuesday, Aug. 23, at 10 p.m.
The special will feature creator Barbara Walters, who left her daily co-host role on the show in 2014, other past co-hosts, behind-the-scenes stories, memories from celebrity fans and a look back at the show's most-talked-about moments.
“As we prepare for season 20 of The View, we will take a look back at its remarkable history,” Walters said in a statement. “In our primetime special, celebrating this event, you will see the legacy of the program. I am very proud of the show that I created almost two decades ago. We hope the viewers will take a little time to enjoy The View."
View executive producer Candi Carter added, “We have such a smart, funny and fearless group of women who bring unparalleled passion and opinions to the hot topics table every single day. We have an exciting season 20 planned and plenty of surprises in store.”
