Sarah Jessica Parker Confirms Storyline for Third 'Sex and the City' Movie
The first two theatrical spin-offs of the HBO series each grossed more than $250 million worldwide.
A third Sex and the City movie is inching towards reality, as series star Sarah Jessica Parker says there's a nugget for a story being developed.
When asked if there was a chance for another sequel to the high-fashion franchise, Parker told Parade, "There is. I know what the story is. It’s a small story, but I think it should be told. The question is, what’s the right time to tell it?”
Parker's comments seem to lend credence to the theory that a third film would not be a prequel. If that were the case, Sex and the City showrunner Michael Patrick King would not be involved. He said earlier this month, "My Carrie Bradshaw started at 33, and I took her to 43. I didn't even want to know who Carrie Bradshaw's parents were because I thought she only existed in Manhattan. So for me, the idea of going backwards and making her less evolved ... is something that I don't imagine doing."
Actress Kristin Davis expressed similar reservations about the prequel concept, "Not so into the prequel movie, because we're us and we've discussed our history in the show already so for all of our fervent fans who listen to what we say, why would we rewrite that? And then have like different people with our names? It's kind of freaky."
Davis is, however, enthusiastic about the idea of a third SATC film. "I'm always hopeful and I always believe there's another story to tell because these are these women's lives so why wouldn't there be another chapter," she said. "[But] I don't know if it will happen."
The first Sex and the City movie made more than $152 million at the domestic box office plus another $262.6 million overseas. 2010's Sex and the City 2 logged $95 million in North America and more than double that Internationally for a total gross of $288 million
