Sarah Palin: Daughter Bristol's Wedding Has Been Called Off
Bristol, 24, and Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer were planning to get married May 23.
It appears that Bristol Palin will not be showing off her dancing prowess at her own wedding reception anytime soon.
Sarah Palin posted to Facebook on Monday that her 24-year-old daughter's planned May 23 wedding to 2011 Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer is off.
"Bristol and Dakota couldn’t be more thankful for the love and support of family and friends over the past months while preparing for their wedding," Sarah wrote. "They have informed loved ones that unfortunately the announced celebration planned for May 23 will not be held."
Sarah added that "many friends and family still look forward to getting together that day in Kentucky anyway," with the two families planning to enjoy "a great bar-b-que" and "celebrate life in general."
Included with the message was an image that reads: "Trust in God's timing. It's better to wait a while and have things fall into place than to rush and have things fall apart."
The former governor of Alaska also posted a message from Bristol to address reported rumors about Meyer: "Regarding salacious headlines in recent days about 'secret wives,' Dakota and I discussed our past relationships prior to our engagement. Dakota was legally divorced years ago, as any good reporter could and should have disclosed to readers."
Bristol, who has competed on two seasons of ABC's Dancing With the Stars, had announced the engagement on her blog in March, writing that Meyer proposed at a Rascal Flatts concert. The former Marine met Bristol in 2014 while filming a segment for Sarah's Sportsman Channel show Amazing America.
In January, Meyer posted a photo to Facebook of himself holding a sign that read "F— you, Michael Moore," which followed the filmmaker's tweet that he was taught to believe "snipers were cowards."
This would have been the first marriage for Bristol, who has a six-year-old son, Tripp, with Levi Johnston. Bristol and Johnston called off their engagement in 2009, and they called off a second engagement in 2010.
