MEXICO CITY -- Sony Pictures Television International has promoted T.C. Schultz to executive vp and managing director of Latin America.

Based in SPTI's Latin American headquarters in Miami, Schultz will report to president Michael Grindon. He will oversee licensing operations, ad sales, channels and productions in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Schultz was senior vp of SPTI's international networks. In that position, Schultz primarily was responsible for overseeing the group's Latin American operations, including SPTI's three cable and satellite networks, AXN, Sony Entertainment Television and Animax, as well as SPTI's investments in HBO Ole/Cinemax, HBO Brasil/Cinemax and E! Entertainment. Schultz also was responsible for global advertising sales for SPTI's international networks group. SPTI's Miami-based advertising sales company, with offices in Mexico, Brazil and Panama, also reported to Schultz.

"T.C. has played an integral role in the growth of our businesses in Latin America, and this promotion is in recognition of his accomplishments," Grindon said. "In the past year, SPTI has solidified its position as a leading distributor and producer of content throughout the region and has also succeeded in bringing more original and popular programming to our channels."

Before joining SPTI, Schultz was executive vp of SBS Broadcasting SA, where he helped build SBS from its infancy into one of Europe's leading broadcasting companies. He also held positions at Hearst Broadcasting's WBAL-TV and Katz Television.

SPTI's Latin American distribution business continues to grow and has expanded to include the sale of mobile TV/video, games and personalization products to mobile operators and customers throughout the region.
