Sean Penn picks up Palm Springs honor

Actor to receive award for his performance in 'Milk'

Making his second consecutive appearance as an honoree at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, Sean Penn is set to receive the fest's Desert Palm Achievement in Acting Award at the awards gala to be held Jan. 6 at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

Penn, who will be recognized for his star turn as gay rights activist Harvey Milk in Focus' "Milk," was honored last year with the Director of the Year Award for his film "Into the Wild."
