Seattle Seahawks Apologize for MLK Tweet
The team had irked some Twitter users with its photo of quarterback Russell Wilson.
The Seattle Seahawks may have chosen the wrong way to honor Martin Luther King Day.
The Super Bowl-bound team tweeted a pic Monday of quarterback Russell Wilson in tears following their Sunday win over the Green Bay Packers. The tweet included the following quote from Martin Luther King, Jr.: "Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step."
After the tweet was criticized as insensitive, the team deleted it and issued an apology.
"We apologize for poor judgment shown in a tweet sent earlier," read the follow-up tweet. "We did not intend to compare football to the civil rights legacy of Dr. King."
The Seahawks face off against the New England Patriots in the big game Feb. 1 on NBC.
