'Secret in Their Eyes' Remake Moves to November
Chiwetel Ejiofor, Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts star in the STX Entertainment project.
STX Entertainment is moving the release of the crime thriller Secret in Their Eyes, starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts, to Nov. 20. The movie had originally been scheduled to hit theaters on Oct. 23, but will now open on the weekend before Thanksgiving in hopes of taking advantage of the availability of holiday moviegoers.
In announcing the change, Kevin Grayson, president of theatrical distribution for STX, said, “Secret in Their Eyes is a smart, well-crafted crime thriller with a remarkable cast that has broad commercial appeal for adults. We launched the trailer over the July 4th weekend and have been thrilled with the response. We believe this is a time of year where our audience will be looking for quality films, and are pleased to give them this compelling date-night thriller.”
Written and directed by Billy Ray, Secret in Their Eyes is a remake of Juan Jose Campanella’s 2010 Oscar-winning best foreign language film. IM Global is producing the film along with STX.
The story centers on FBI investigator Ray (Ejiofor) who finds the teenage daughter of his partner Jess (Roberts) murdered in a brutal crime. They team with the District Attorney, Claire (Kidman), to bring the murderer to justice. But they soon realize the murderer is a protected witness in an ongoing terror investigation.
Nov. 20 is the weekend before the Thanksgiving holiday. Lionsgate's big final Hunger Games film, Mockingjay — Part 2 is also opening on that date.
