Seltzer shaking up NextMEDIA

TORONTO -- Stacey Seltzer, senior vp of content strategy at upstart Internet TV player Joost, will address the Banff World Television Festival's NextMEDIA conference next month, organizers said Tuesday.

Seltzer is expected to lend insight into how the Internet broadcaster has recently lined up A-list content suppliers and advertisers -- and how it will ultimately engage Web viewers.

In the most recent arrangement, Warner Bros. Television Group agreed to contribute programming via online channels on the Luxembourg-based Joost platform.

Mark Greenspan, director of digital media for Achilles Media Ltd., which organizes NextMedia and the Banff festival, said snagging Seltzer represented a "coup" for the Canadian festival.

"The potential of Joost is huge and nextMEDIA delegates will be among the first in Canada to have insight into how Joost is bringing advertisers, content owners and viewers together in an online global TV distribution platform," he said.

Joost, launched by Skype and Kazaar co-founders Janus Friis and Niklas Zennstrom, will offer broadcast-quality content to viewers for free via the Internet.
