'Screw Them,' Ann Coulter Says of Critics of Her Tweets Calling Obama a 'Retard'
Appearing on Alan Colmes' Fox News Radio show, the pundit continued to defend her use of the word in the face of widespread criticism.
Ann Coulter continued to defend calling President Obama a "retard" in multiple tweets following the third presidential debate.
Appearing on Alan Colmes' show on the Fox News radio network on Oct. 26, Coulter said, "oh screw them," when asked about her critics.
"Look, no one would refer to a Down Syndrome child, someone with an actual mental handicap, by saying ‘retard.’" she told Colmes.
"Where do you think the words ‘imbecile,’ ‘idiot,’ ‘moron,’ ‘cretin’ come from? These were all technical terms at one time. ‘Retard’ had been used colloquially to just mean ‘loser’ for 30 years,” Coulter insisted. “But no, no — these aggressive victims have to come out and tell you what words to use.”
She dismissed any correlation between "retard" and other slurs such as the n-word, calling the critics bullies. "I feel they’re being authoritarian bullying victims."
The controversy began after the Oct. 22 presidential debate in Boca Raton, Florida, when Coulter tweeted, "I highly approve of Romney's decision to be kind and gentle to the retard."
The tweet brought a range of condemnation, including from Special Olympian John Franklin Stevens, who posted an impassioned critique on his blog.
Coulter defended her tweet by hurling the insult at Obama in another tweet on Oct. 23.
“Obama: "Stage 3 Romneysia" - because cancer references are HILARIOUS. If he's "the smartest guy in the room" it must be one retarded room.”
Both liberal and conservative commentators criticized the pundit.
Coulter has 265,000 followers on Twitter.
