Sesame institute studies new-media effect

Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit organization behind PBS' "Sesame Street," is opening an institute to research digital media's effect on children's education, the group said Thursday.

The Joan Ganz Cooney Center, named after one of the creators of the kids' show, will conduct research and create digital properties focusing on how the Internet, cell phones, video games and other interactive technology can help elementary age children learn. The institute will be based in New York and will have a Web presence at www.joanganzcooneycenter.org. The group has a summary of its first report available on its Web site.
