Seth MacFarlane to Host Oscars: Hollywood Reacts
The "Family Guy" creator calls it an "overwhelming privilege" to host the event, as the rest of the industry weighs in.
After a staid awards hosted last year by Billy Crystal, the Academy is shaking up the script for the 85th Oscars with the selection of comedy mogul Seth MacFarlane to emcee the proceedings.

MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy and star of this summer's hit movie Ted, recently hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live and also presented at the Emmy awards last weekend--where he spoke into a microphone that wasn't on before realizing the error and making a joke out of it.

"It's truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars," stated MacFarlane in the Academy release. "My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don't find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast."
His acceptance of the position wasn't all reverence-filled. In perhaps a nod to the Oscar telecast's perceived audience of older viewers, MacFarlane tweeted a video of himself breaking the news that he was selected as the event's host to his father because "I wanted him to be the first to know." His father seemed indifferent to the news.
Here are a few reactions from around the industry to the MacFarlane's selection:
.@sethmacfarlane Congratulations on The Oscars.Great choice on their part. Don't hold back. Let me know if you need any Scientology gags
