Sarah Jessica Parker: 'Sex and the City 3' Not in the Works
"There is no decision. It is a not-often-had conversation … There is a story. When and if we tell it remains unknown."
Sex and the City fans desperately hoping for a third film should calm down.
There's no new movie in the works, Sarah Jessica Parker said on Thursday's Today, explaining that while she and Sex and the City writer-director-producer Michael Patrick King have a story in mind if they did decide to do a third movie, there's no plan to do so.
Interviewing Parker about her shoe collection, which debuted at New York Fashion Week, Matt Lauer pointed out the rumors about a third film that pop up seemingly whenever Parker does or says anything, asking "What is the final decision on this?"
Parker: "There is no decision. It is a not-often-had conversation. I know well and Michael Patrick knows well the story we might tell if we ever tell it, but the real truth, and I'm not being cagey, is we've not discussed a when."
In response to Lauer summarizing her remarks as "it's not front burner, it's not back burner," Parker elaborated, "There's no oven, no table that it sits on, no burners."
She added, "It's such a hard question to answer because everybody reads and projects so much into what I say. There is a story. When and if we tell it remains unknown. Is that clear?"
It seems that way but Parker knows people might not interpret it that way, wondering aloud, "Is there any way that can be changed, misconstrued, deconstructed?"
Lauer: "Yes, social media's already on that."
Parker laughed and sarcastically exclaimed, "I can't wait!"
