Shain Gandee's Death: MTV is 'Shocked and Saddened,' 'Buckwild' Season 2 Remains in Limbo
The network did not address whether the upcoming iteration of its reality program will continue.
Following news of Buckwild star Shain Gandee’s death, MTV has issued a statement expressing condolences, but a decision on whether to air the upcoming season does not appear to have been made.
“We are shocked and saddened by the terrible news about Shain Gandee and those involved in this tragic incident,” the network says in a statement. “We are waiting for more information, but at this time, our main concern is for the Gandee family and their friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with them."
“Shain had a magnetic personality, with a passion for life that touched everyone he met,” the statement continues. “We will miss him dearly.”
On Monday, news broke that the 21-year-old reality star had been found dead in his vehicle, along with his uncle and another unidentified individual, after being reported missing. The trio were last seen at Larry’s Bar in Sissonville, W.Va., at 3 a.m. and reportedly told patrons that they were going off-roading.
Buckwild had been picked up for a second season, which was in postproduction.
A few of Gandee's co-stars have weighed in on Twitter, with Katie Saria ("The College Girl") writing, "Everything doesn't happen for a reason I don't know why people say that."
Michael Burford, aka "Bluefoot," expressed anger at several comments he was seeing on the social networking site. "My hearts in a million god damn pieces you son of a bitches wanna make smart ass remarks," he wrote. "I love you Shain idk what I'm gonna do w.o. ya bro."
