Shaun White Arrested, Charged With Vandalism and Public Intoxication

The Olympic gold medalist was seen sporting a black eye in his mug shot following the incident.

Olympic gold medalist Shaun White was arrested Sunday in Nashville, where he was charged with vandalism and public intoxication following a series of events in the early hours of the morning.

Officers responded to the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel, where White was a guest, at 2 a.m. after an intoxicated man, reportedly White, allegedly pulled a fire alarm in the hotel causing all guests to evacuate. An employee also claims to have seen White destroy a hotel phone.

The 26-year-old then allegedly attempted to flee the scene by cab when a citizen told the driver that he was calling the police. White then reportedly kicked the citizen and ran off, though the citizen has since declined to press charges.

White was followed by the witness until he allegedly fell backwards, striking his head against a fence. He was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released on his own recognizance. Responding officers said that White appeared extremely intoxicated and smelled strongly of alcohol.

Arrest warrants charging White with vandalism and public intoxication were issued Sunday morning after he refused to sign misdemeanor citations.

In a mug shot released by the Metro Nashville Police Department, White is seen with his hair slicked back and sporting a black eye on the left side of his face. It was not clear whether the injury was sustained prior to the incident or as the result of reportedly hitting his head on a fence.

White rose to prominence as a professional snowboarder and skateboarder. He is a two time Olympic gold medalist and an X-Games staple. In 2011, following his turn at the 2010 Vancouver games, White had a cameo appearance opposite Justin Timberlake in Screen Gems’ Friends With Benefits.
