Shazam Launches Player For iPad, iPhone and iTouch
The sound recognition service launches a free app that allows users to stream lyrics, videos, and share their personal soundtracks on social networks.
Sound recognition service Shazam announced its brand new Shazam Player for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch today.
The free App will include the classic Shazam discovery features such as LyricPlay, streaming lyrics in time with music videos on YouTube, and social sharing on Facebook and Twitter.
“This is a momentous occasion for the company,” said Shazam CEO Andrew Fisher in a statement issued Jan. 11. “With the Shazam Player App, we are staying true to our core music fans by enabling them to experience their own music libraries in a more engaging and social way.”
With the player app, Shazam users, which now number more than 100 million, will have the ability to share the soundtracks to their lives and also view concert clips and keep up with tour dates for their favorite artists. In addition, the player features a purchase option via iTunes, a "hide" function for the shuffle experience and an "on-the-fly" playlist.
Shazam's acoustic fingerprinting capabilities remain intact within the Shazam Player App, allowing users to instantly identify the song they're hearing.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that nearly a third of all Superbowl ads will be Shazam-able on Game Day as the service expands to television. According to AdWeek, Shazam for TV campaigns deliver a 350 percent increase in engagement over ads with a social call to action such as “Fan us on Facebook” or “Follow us on Twitter.”
