Shoppers Were Thirsty for Faux-Fur Slides at Rihanna's Fenty x Puma L.A. Pop-Up

A small (but eager) crowd turned out for the pop-up's grand opening event.

On Tuesday afternoon, one day before the official launch of Rihanna's Fenty x Puma collection, Fenty fans had the opportunity to line up at the singer's special L.A. pop-up store to get their paws on the Japanese streetwear-inspired goods. 

Though RiRi herself was in New York hosting a private shopping event with Bergdorf Goodman customers and a meet-and-greet at Footlocker's Six:02 boutique, another Fenty x Puma retailer in New York City, that didn't stop her West Coast fans from trekking to West Hollywood. Shoppers lined up at the door of 8380 Melrose Ave, located just below Rachel Zoe's offices, to snatch up the coveted merch.

 

"I'm a fan of anything Rihanna touches," gushed one fan, who waited for a little under an hour to be ushered into the store. With about 30 people in line at the time the doors opened at noon, the small crowd was eager but orderly, and waited patiently as about 10 guests were allowed inside the space at a time.

"I'm excited to get the slip-ons with the fur," added another customer of Rihanna's sell-out faux-fur slides ($70). Behind the glass doors, which housed black mannequins dressed in the primarily black-and-white duds, customers made a bee-line for the shoes — which, at under $350, were the more affordable pieces.

While her footwear, including the creeper in its eight colorways ($140), has been on the market since spring, the clothing — including a kimono-inspired track jacket ($300), tear-away pants ($150) and cropped lace-up hoodies ($150) — made its retail debut today at the L.A. and Manhattan pop-ups as well as Puma's website (where several items are already sold out).

The cozy West Hollywood boutique space, located a block down from the Kardashians' Dash store and across the street from Diesel and Marc Jacobs, was decorated with black-and-white fixtures that put the mesh headwraps ($50), a terry cloth sweatband choker ($30) and sneaker wedge boots ($350) on full display.

Unlike past pop-ups by Kanye West and RiRi's rumored beau Drake, the Fenty x Puma pop-up will be open for several weeks (until Sept. 25), which is likely the reason for the low initial turnout. Reps at the store assured customers that sizes will be restocked.
