Shout eyes country music specials

Partners with Country Music Hall of Fame

Shout! Factory and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum have partnered to co-produce a series of original specials on the history of country music for broadcast and DVD distribution.

Documentarians David Leaf and Morgan Neville have signed on to produce the series, which will be organized thematically rather than chronologically. A team of filmmakers will address topics including "The Roots of Country and Bluegrass," "The Honky Tonk Tradition," "Outlaw Country," "The Nashville Sound," "The Politics of Country," "Country Songs and Songwriters," "California Country" and "No Depression," centering on the alternative country music movement.

The companies said the series will feature interviews with recording artists as well as archival and contemporary performances. They estimated that the production will probably take at least two years, with the goal to find broadcast distribution partners around the world.

Shout! and the Country Music Hall previously collaborated on a series of DVD collections.
