Don Cheadle will be honored as male star of the year at ShoWest, the annual film industry convention that will be held March 12-15 at the Bally's and Paris hotels in Las Vegas.

Cheadle, a best actor Oscar nominee for "Hotel Rwanda" and a member of the acting ensemble in "Crash," last year's best picture, will be presented with the award March 15 at the closing-night ceremony.

"Don Cheadle's powerful performances in such movies as 'Devil in a Blue Dress,' 'Hotel Rwanda' and 'Crash' have not only earned him critical acclaim but have made him one of Hollywood's most respected actors," ShoWest co-managing director Mitch Neuhauser said.

Cheadle next stars opposite Adam Sandler in Mike Binder's drama "Reign Over Me," which Sony Pictures will release March 23. He plays a man who meets up with his former college roommate (Sandler) who lost his family in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. His upcoming titles also include Focus Features' "Talk to Me," the story of Washington radio host and activist Ralph "Petey" Greene, and "Ocean's Thirteen," Warner Bros. Pictures' third installment in the popular franchise.

Cheadle's other credits include "Boogie Nights," "Swordfish," "The Assassination of Richard Nixon," "Traffic" and "Ocean's Eleven" and "Ocean's Twelve."

ShoWest is managed by Nielsen Business Media, parent company of The Hollywood Reporter.
