The deal givess Movistar+ exclusive Showtime content rights and brand usage

Spain’s leading pay TV platform Movistar+ and CBS Corp.'s CBS Studios International unit on Tuesday unveiled an exclusive licensing deal in Spain for the linear and SVOD rights to current and past hits, as well as all future Showtime-owned series.

The agreement — which covers the likes of Billions, Madame Secretary and the Odd Couple — makes Movistar+ the official home of Showtime programming in Spain, with exclusive use of the Showtime brand and trademark.

Financial terms weren't disclosed.

The Movistar+ deal builds on CBS's global expansion strategy for Showtime by distributing its programming portfolio and brand as a bundled offering to leading media companies around the world. It has struck similar exclusive deals over the past 18 months with Sky in Europe, Bell Media in Canada and Stan in Australia.

“Showtime is quickly becoming one of the most prestigious content brands in the global marketplace,” said Armando Nunez, president and CEO, CBS Studios International. “We’re excited to further expand the reach of Showtime with another branded programming agreement of this scale and with a best-in-class partner such as Movistar+.”

Billions will kick off the content deal in November, followed by the comedy drama series I’m Dying Up Here, executive produced by Jim Carrey. Movistar+ will also be home to Twin Peaks, a much-anticipated return, and the new limited drama series, Purity, starring Daniel Craig.

“For the last few years, Showtime series were part of our service, but that was only the beginning. Now, we are able to build on our existing Showtime programming with future Showtime-owned series,” Pedro Garcia Guillen, CEO of Movistar+, said. “We are very proud to have closed such an important deal with a brand that has proven its ability to create shows of enormous value and appeal to our Movistar Series clients.”

Other Showtime programming available on Movistar+ will include current series The Affair, Ray Donovan, House of Lies and Penny Dreadful, along with select library series including Californication, Dexter and Nurse Jackie
