Simon Curtis' 'My Week With Marilyn' to Premiere at 2011 NYFF
The Weinstein Co. film, starring Michelle Williams, will make its world premiere as the Centerpiece Gala selection.
Simon Curtis' My Week With Marilyn will have its world premiere as the Centerpiece Gala selection, announced The Film Society of Lincoln Center. The screening is set for Sunday, Oct. 9 at the 49th New York Film Festival (Sep 30- Oct 16).
My Week With Marilyn is based on Colin Clark’s diaries, where he documents the tense interaction between Sir Laurence Olivier and Marilyn Monroe during the production of the movie The Prince and the Showgirl in the early summer of 1956. The cast includes Michelle Williams, Dominic Cooper, Eddie Redmayne and Kenneth Branagh. The Weinstein Co. film hits theaters on Nov 4.
"After seeing Marilyn Monroe so often portrayed in films as a caricature, it is a pleasure to see this complex personality and unique on-screen presence portrayed so well by such a talented actress as Michelle Williams," said Richard Peña, selection committee chair & program director of The Film Society of Lincoln Center.
NYFF also announced Masterworks presentations including a screening of an 8K digital restored version of William Wyler’s Ben- Hur and Nicholas Ray’s We Can't go Home Again. Japan's Nikkatsu Films will be celebrating its 100th anniversary and will be featuring screenings of 36 films including Kon Ichikawa’s The Burmese Harp, Masahiro Makino’s Singing Love Birds and Ko Nakahira’s Crazed Fruit, among others.
