Simone Biles, Olympic Balance Beam Medalist, Struggles to Balance In Heels
"Heels are like a new sport for me.”
How tricky can stiletto heels be when you have an Olympic medal on the balance beam? For Simone Biles, the answer is very tricky.
"I’m new to heels," said the gymnast at The Hollywood Reporter's Annual Women in Entertainment Breakfast. "Most of the time I’m barefoot or just in sneakers, so heels are a different world for me. I’m just learning to walk in them."
But although she can easily stick a landing performing one of the most difficult tumbles known to man, pumps have posed a tripping hazard. “I fell down the stairs at the VMAs in heels, I’ve fallen down at basketball games in shoes," said the 19-year-old, adding, "Once I put them on, I tell people, 'You can laugh, it’s fine.' Heels are like a new sport for me.”
On Wednesday, however, Biles seemed perfectly stable, strutting down the carpet in Badgley Mischka embellished peep-toe pumps and a Marienbad pantsuit alongside Susan Sarandon, Michelle Monaghan and Tina Fey. As they say, practice makes perfect.
