NEW DELHI -- News Corp.'s STAR Group announced Thursday the appointment of Vijay Singh to the newly created position of president, strategy and corporate development, STAR India. Singh will report to Hong Kong-based Paul Aiello, acting CEO of STAR India, and will join in April.

Singh will be responsible for developing business directions for Mumbai-based STAR India, overseeing corporate functions including strategic planning, business development, human resources, legal, government affairs and corporate communications.

Commenting on Singh's appointment, Aiello said: "Vijay is a veteran executive with a huge breadth of experience and we feel very fortunate to have attracted him to join STAR India. His business acumen and unique insights into India and other developing markets will be invaluable as STAR India readies itself for its next phase of growth and expansion."

STAR India saw a major shakeout in January with the departure of two senior executives, Peter Mukerjea, CEO STAR Group India, and Samee Nair, CEO of the group's other division, STAR Entertainment India.

Both these positions have been eliminated.

Expanding further on the company's current organization structure, STAR India spokesperson Yash Khanna said in an interview: "With Singh's appointment, STAR India is now being supervised by three executives in different positions reporting to Paul Aiello. Singh's newly created position is an addition to the existing roles of Paritosh Joshi, president, advertising sales and distribution, and Ajay Vidyasagar, president of content and communications."
