Sir Paul McCartney Marries Nancy Shevell in London
Hundreds of well-wishers met the couple outside the register office in London's town hall.
After four years of dating, Paul McCartney, 69, has finally married his American love, Nancy Shevell, 51, in London Sunday afternoon.
The couple arrived at Old Marylebone Town Hall where they were met by hundreds of well-wishers and photographers. The former Beatle was wearing a simple dark blue suit and silvery pewter blue tie, while Shevell opted for a classic long-sleeved cocktail-length white dress and a white flower tucked into her hair. According to Monique Jessen of People magazine, both the suit and the dress were designed by Sir Paul’s daughter, Stella McCartney.
McCartney’s youngest daughter, Beatrice, who he fathered with ex-wife Heather Mills, was dressed as a flower girl for the ceremony. About 30 guests were in attendance at the town hall ceremony, including McCartney’s former Beatles bandmate Ringo Starr. Coincidentally, Sunday would have been John Lennon’s 71st birthday.

The View’s Barbara Walters, who reportedly played matchmaker for the couple, according to the NY Observer, was also in London for the wedding. Walters is Shevell’s second cousin.
Shevell grew up in Edison, New Jersey, the daughter of Myron and Arlene Shevell. Her father is the owner of New England Motor Freight (NEMF), a business that counts revenues of more than $400 million annually. Shevell was appointed to serve on the M.T.A. board in New York in 2001 by then-governor George Pataki, though her 10-year tenure came to an end in June, a month after McCartney and Shevell announced their engagement.
McCartney has an estate in Peasmarsh, Sussex, set on an isolated 1,500 acres. The couple hasn’t officially announced which side of the Pacific Ocean they will make their home base.

This is McCartney’s third marriage and Shevell’s second. McCartney was wed to his first wife, Linda Eastman, for nearly 30 years until she died of breast cancer in 1998. According to the NY Observer, Shevell’s first marriage was to attorney Bruce Blakeman, who ran unsuccessfully as a Republican in the 2010 Senate race in New York. They have a 19-year-old son, Arlen. “I wish Nancy and Paul well, and that’s it,” Blakeman said when contacted by the Observer after the couple got engaged. “Nancy’s a great mother, and Paul treats my son very nicely.”
McCartney’s second marriage to model Heather Mills ended in a bitter divorce in 2008. She fought for a large divorce settlement—125 million pounds—alleging she acted as a psychologist for McCartney as he grieved for his first wife Linda. The judge awarded her 24.3 million pounds ($48.6 million), less than a fifth of what she originally asked for.

McCartney and Shevell first began dating publicly in 2007, though they have been in the same weekend circles some 20 years, as neighbors at their vacation homes in the Hamptons. Shevell has a multi-million dollar home in East Hampton while McCartney owns a property in neighboring Amagansett.
