Sarah Jessica Parker Brings Her Shoes to Sin City
Sarah Jessica Parker unveils a Las Vegas collaboration and pop-up shop.
For just two days, footwear fanatics will be able to shop at a temporary boutique within Las Vegas’ Crystals retail center dedicated to Sarah Jessica Parker’s SJP shoe line. The television and fashion icon partnered with online retailer Zappos Couture to bring the Las Vegas-inspired Strip Collection to the city for which it’s named.
“It’s a total privilege. We love this partnership with Zappos Couture. It’s a really big deal for us,” she says. “To have this muscularity of this particular e-commerce behemoth on our side and to get to tell our story this way and to introduce our brand to this new customer for us … it’s a total thrill.”
Parker admitted that she doesn’t visit Nevada often even though she starred in the 1992 film Honeymoon in Vegas.
“I don’t get here a lot,” she says. “It’s like some sort of ornament someone dangles in front of you but you don’t get to hold it much.”
While she was in town she managed to cover major ground. Her first stop, on April 16, was a trip to Zappos headquarters in downtown in Las Vegas, where she spoke to employees and posed for pictures. Then Parker headed to Crystals (adjacent to Aria), where she hosted an invite-only event for Las Vegas’ most fashionable residents with bites from Michael Mina’s new restaurant Bardot Brasserie. Later she returned to downtown Las Vegas to check out Zappos founder Tony Hsieh’s “Airstream Village,” hashtagging the images on her Instagram with the playful #SJPdoeswhatTHtellsherto. She tackled the day in her Naomi pump outfitted in a custom multicolored metallic fabric.
“Playing Carrie Bradshaw for all those years I just wore more shoes in those 10-12 years than most people will wear in a lifetime,” she says. “It was a crazy experience in fashion in general.” For the time being, she says there are no plans to move into ready-to-wear. “We want to shore up our base in the shoe category and establish ourselves there.”
On April 17 and 18, the boutique will be open to the public with SJP making appearances from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The shop, situated alongside luxury fashion giants such as Miu Miu, Dolce and Gabbana, Paul Smith and Bally within the Daniel Libeskind-designed Crystals, evokes a whimsical shoebox. The four-wall structure has an open top that proves to be a desirable vantage point for fans hoping to catch a glimpse.
If you can’t make it to Vegas this weekend, The Strip Collection is also available at couture.zappos.com.
