Smith takes root at Seed
EmptySYDNEY -- Jane Smith, former chief executive of the NSW Film and Television Office, has been named vp and head of development for Australia at Hugh Jackman's production shingle Seed.
In a statement Monday, Seed principal John Palermo said Smith will join Lisa Shaugnessy in developing projects for Seed, from its base on the Fox Studios Australia lot. They'll work with Jackman, Palermo and Seed's third partner Deborra Lee Furness.
Based on the Fox Studios Australia lot, Seed was launched in August and has created a pair of TV projects for paynet Foxtel. It also has an epic love story penned by Stuart Beattie in development.
Palermo said the company will produce a second reality/documentary series for Foxtel.
Palermo said Seed, when fully operational, hopes to produce 4-5 films a year with budgets under AUS$10 million ($8 million) each.
Seed provides "a chance to bring some really exciting projects to international screens from Australia," Smith said, calling the appointment "an important milestone."
Added Smith: "It's a perfect next step for me and I'm looking forward to continuing my relationship with the Australian creative community."
