'Snow White and the Huntsman' Remains Top-Selling Disc
New releases "The Cabin in the Woods," "Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3," and "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" trailed the Kristen Stewart film.
Universal Studios Home Entertainment’s Snow White and the Huntsman remained the top-selling disc the week ending Sept. 23, while Paramount topped the Blu-ray Disc sales chart with the new-to-Blu-ray Indiana Jones collection.
Snow White held off four other new releases: the Lionsgate horror comedy The Cabin in the Woods, which rode its $42 million box office gross to a No. 2 debut on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart; Walt Disney’s Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3: Viva La Fiesta!, the second direct-to-video sequel to the 2008 talking dog comedy (No. 3), 20th Century Fox’s The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, a comedy that earned just over $46 million in U.S. theaters (No. 4), and the Indiana Jones collection, which bowed at No. 5 on First Alert, which tracks overall disc sales. Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games slipped to No. 6 from No. 5 the prior week in its sixth week in stores.
On Nielsen’s dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart, Indiana Jones was followed in the No. 2 spot by Cabin in the Woods, which generated 54% of its total unit sales from Blu-ray Disc. Snow White slipped to No. 3 from No. 1 the prior week, while Paramount’s Titanic slid to No. 4 from No. 2. Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3 debuted at No. 5, even though just 22% of its unit sales came from Blu-ray.

On Home Media Magazine’s rental chart, Lionsgate snagged the No. 1 spot with Cabin in the Woods, bumping What to Expect When You’re Expecting, also from Lionsgate, to No. 2. Lionsgate also nailed down the next two chart positions, with Safe at No. 3 and The Hunger Games at No. 4. Katy Perry: Part of Me, a new concert video from Paramount, debuted at No. 5.
