The drama, which follows how an aging couple in Marseilles deal with the effects of a robbery, beat out Greek feature Attenberg from Athina Rachel Tsangari and Play from Sweden’s Ruben Ostlund. Kilimanjaro, which premiered in Cannes in the Un Certain Regard sidebar, bows across France this weekend.
The European Parliament hands out the LUX every year to a film that “contributes to the public debate on Europe.” The winner is voted on by members of the European Parliament.
