The period drama from Christian Petzold debuted at the Toronto Film Festival

Soda Pictures has acquired U.K. rights for Phoenix, the latest collaboration between German director Christian Petzold and actress Nina Hoss (Barbara).

The film noir is set just after World War II. Hoss plays a Holocaust survivor who returns home, her face scarred beyond recognition. After doctors reconstruct her face, she is forced to rebuild her life.

The deal for Phoenix was negotiated by Eve Gabereau of Soda Pictures and Brigitte Suarez and Michael Weber of The Match Factory, which is handling international sales. Soda plans to bow the film in the U.K. and Ireland in 2015.

Phoenix now heads to the San Sebastian and London film festivals. Sundance Selects picked up U.S. rights to Phoenix shortly after its Toronto debut.
