Soho House Group Kicks Off Second 'House Shorts' Film Competition
With The Hollywood Reporter as a partner, the initiative pits 10 filmmakers against one another for the international prize -- being judged this year by Harvey Weinstein, Paul Haggis and Jessica Chastain.
After its inaugural run in 2010, the Soho House Group -- which has private clubs in the U.K., the U.S. and Germany -- is launching its second "House Shorts" film challenge in partnership with The Hollywood Reporter, BAFTA and Bombay Sapphire.
Panelists, including Harvey Weinstein, Paul Haggis, Jessica Chastain and THR Editorial Director Janice Min, will judge selections from 10 finalists, with the winner being decided at an event in New York this fall.
As with the first outing, the contest will narrow down applicants based off of 400-word pitches for two-minute films, each of which need to be set and shot in one of the Soho House properties. Applications are due July 13.
In addition to receiving international membership to Soho House, the winner will get private mentorship sessions with each member of the 10-judge panel.
Sean Gray, who won in 2010, has gone on to write for HBO's recently renewed comedy, Veep.
“Our first Shorts competition was fantastic," said Soho House founder and chief executive Nick Jones. "The finalists truly brought our Houses to life with their submissions, and we have very proudly watched Sean’s success. This year we hope to raise the bar even higher, adding our two new Soho Houses as locations and a powerful panel of inspiring and of-the-moment judges.”
The judges:
Oscar-winning screenwriter Paul Haggis (U.K.)
Film producer and studio chairman Harvey Weinstein (U.S.)
Pride and Prejudice director Joe Wright (U.K.)
Director, writer and producer Paul Greengrass (U.K.)
The Hollywood Reporter Editorial Director Janice Min (U.S.)
Oliver Berben of Constantin Film Productions (Germany)
Producer and co-founder of Killer Films and Sundance Panellist Christine Vachon (U.S.)
Short film programmer at the Berlin Film Festival Maike Mia Höhne (Germany)
The Help actress Jessica Chastain (U.S.)
Current winner of the House Shorts Sean Gray (U.K.)
