Song, dance fuel another win for Fox
EmptyFox took the crown last week in total viewers and the adults 18-49 demo thanks to the performances of such series as "Hell's Kitchen," "Don't Forget the Lyrics" and "So You Think You Can Dance."
The demo win for the week ending July 15 extends Fox's streak to 23 consecutive weeks, the longest for any network since NBC won 24 weeks in a row in 1998.
"Hell's Kitchen" (7.5 million, 3.6/10) is on a hot streak in its 9-10 p.m. slot Monday, winning that night in the demo and outperforming the same frame a year ago by 11% in 18-49 and 9% in total viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research.
The Thursday edition of "Dance" (9.7 million, 3.6/11) also is showing improvement over a year ago, increasing its demo figures by 3% and total viewership by 2% at 9-10 p.m. Wednesday's 90-minute episode of "Dance" at 8 p.m. averaged 7.7 million and a 3.1/10.
Meanwhile, last week saw the debuts of rival singing competitions on NBC and Fox. The peacock's 9:30 p.m. Tuesday premiere of "The Singing Bee" (13.3 million, 5.1/14) hit all the right notes, winning the showdown with Fox's "Don't Forget the Lyrics" and leading all broadcast programming to become the top-rated program of the seven-day frame.
"Lyrics" also did well out of the gate, debuting Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. to 8.3 million viewers and a 3.4/10 in the demo.
Despite hitting near-historic ratings lows, Fox's broadcast of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game (12.5 million, 4.1/12) at 9 p.m. Tuesday still ranked as the No. 2 telecast of the week in the demo, followed by NBC's "America's Got Talent" (11.4 million, 3.9/12) at 8-9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The weekly primetime averages: Fox (6.7 million, 2.4/8), CBS (6.3 million, 1.7/6), NBC (5.8 million, 1.9/6), ABC (4.4 million, 1.5/5) and the CW (1.8 million, 0.7/2).
