The epic adventure series from IAC's Electus and The Weinstein Co. landed a top writer from FX's top-rated drama to join "Marco Polo" creator John Fusco.

Marco Polo has landed a new leader.

The Starz series, from The Weinstein Co. and Ben Silverman’s Electus, has successfully lured long-time Sons of Anarchy scribe Dave Erickson to executive produce and co-show run with writer/creator John Fusco.

“John Fusco has created an epic character and adventure drama unlike anything I’ve read or seen on television,” said Erickson, whose other credits include creating Canterbury’s Law at Fox.

The project is being dubbed a martial arts epic centered on the thirteenth century explorer. Marco Polo will chronicle the famed adventurer’s early years in the court of Kublai Khan. Acting as the ruler's spy, ambassador and explorer, Marco will trek across the Far East and returns with tales of his journeys.

“Dave Erickson is an exceptional writer and showrunner,” noted Young Guns’ Fusco. “I could not ask for a better partner in guiding the epic adventure of Marco Polo toward a compelling series.”

Erickson, who will depart Sons after his four-season stint as lead writer under creator Kurt Sutter, joins fellow EPs Fusco, Silverman and Harvey and Bob Weinstein.

The drama, set to begin production this summer, will rely heavily on themes of political betrayal, forbidden relationships and martial arts. It will join such projects as Spartacus, Boss and upcoming Magic City on Starz' schedule.

Erickson is repped by CAA.
