Sony Announces New 4K PlayStation 4 Pro and Smaller Standard Console
The new, more powerful console will also feature a Netflix app for high-definition streaming.
Sony announced two new versions of its hit PlayStation 4 (PS4) console, the HDTV and 4K-compatible PS4 Pro at $400 and a new lighter, slimmer PS4 at $300.
The PS4 Pro will feature a more powerful processor, higher-resolution graphics and a one-terabyte hard drive, and be released on Nov. 10. The console will come with a dedicated Netflix app for high-definition streaming, while a 4K YouTube app is in development. However, it will not feature a Blu-ray player as earlier versions of the console did.
"Our goal is to deliver high-fidelity graphical experiences. We aim to provide developers with tools to further their visions," said Andrew House, president and group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment.
Sony said it is working with game developers on how to best utilize the increased capabilities of the console for new and existing titles.
The new, slimmed-down standard PS4 is shipping immediately.
