Sony Hack: Four 'Interview' Promotional Screenings Canceled
While the movie is still scheduled for a Dec. 25 release, several theaters have bowed out of hosting the special showings
While Sony Pictures is moving forward with plans to release The Interview on Dec. 25, at least four promotional screenings that were to be held Wednesday and Thursday in Detroit, Baltimore, Cincinnati and Austin have been canceled.
The cancelation decisions were not made by the studio, though, but by the individual theaters where the screenings were to be held, according to sources close to the situation.
In its first public statement about the threats that the hackers have leveled against the movie, the National Association of Theatre Owners said today that "individual cinema operators may decide to delay exhibition of the movie so that our guests may enjoy a safe holiday movie season experiencing the many other exciting films we have to offer." Several chains, including Carmike Cinemas and Bow Tie Cinemas, have announced that they will not be showing the film.
