Sony Takes Home Entertainment Rights to Aurum Catalogue in Spain
Deal kicks off in March with "Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1."
MADRID - Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and Aurum Producciones announced Tuesday an exclusive distribution deal that sees Sony handle all of Aurum's catalogue in Spain, starting in March with Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part I.
Aurum's 450-title strong film catalogue includes films like the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Twilight Saga, as well as upcoming releases like The Woman in Black - with Daniel Radcliffe in his first role after Harry Potter - and The Expendables.
Aurum's TV rights range from CSI to Mad Men and The Pillars of the Earth, as well as the majority of Japan's Studio Ghibli's animation catalogue in Spain.
"We're thrilled to have reached an agreement with Sony Pictures. We think our product and philosophy fit perfectly with their way of understanding the buesinss and we're certain that the deal will mean an important jump in our evolution and growth in the coming years," Aurum deputy general manager Igor Ibeas said.
Aurum, which forms part of the Alliance Films group, is Spain's leading independent distributor and releases 20-25 titles per year, posting €57 million ($73 million) in film sales in 2011 and snagging more than 9 percent of the market.
"The deal we just closed with Aurum marks an exciting challenge for Sony since combined we offer a wide-ranging catalogue of titles that includes the most commercial releases of the moment like The Adventures of Tintin and the latest installment from the Twilight Saga," said Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Spain director Jose Iriondo.
