Sony Music Names Adam Block President of Legacy Recordings

Sony Music Entertainment named Adam Block as president, Legacy Recordings, a promotion from his previous position as EVP and general manager of the imprint. He will report to Richard Story, president of Commercial Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment.

Legacy, who recently signed Willie Nelson to an archival release/five album deal and, along with Epic, is set to re-release Michael Jackson's Bad for its 25th anniversary this September, has an extensive catalog of artists, including Johnny Cash, Aretha Franklin, Elvis Presley, and Prince, among others. Block's new position will be to oversee that massive catalog for Sony's labels, help curate Legacy's worldwide releases, and coordinate A&R and content development for Legacy's output.

Block has spent two decades at Legacy, signing on as director of marketing in 1992 before rising through the ranks to senior director of marketing in 1995, VP of marketing in 1998, SVP/general manager in 2004, and finally to EVP/general manager in 2010, before being promoted again to this position. Throughout his tenure at Legacy, he's helped market artists and releases from the likes of Jackson, Cash, Presley, AC/DC, Pearl Jam, Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, Santana, Journey, and many more.
