Sony Pictures’ 2waytraffic Signs First Look Deal with Nordic World
Deal gives Sony exclusive rights to Nordic’s hit local formats.
COLOGNE, Germany -- 2waytraffic, the European light entertainment producer/distributor controlled by Sony Pictures Television, has signed a first look deal with Scandinavian distribution alliance Nordic World.
The deal, announced Wednesday, gives 2waytraffic exclusive worldwide rights, outside Scandinavian and Finland to Nordic’s vast library of formats for one year. These include such local hits as Norway’s Ultimate Entertainer, Finland’s Blind Chef and Roast the Nation from Sweden. 2waytraffic will shop the formats to international buyers at MipTV in Cannes in April.
The deal is a major boost for Nordic World, a joint venture launched in 2005 by a collective of Scandi broadcasters who were frustrated that rights to so many local formats were controlled by international giants such as FremantleMedia and Endemol.
Nordic World’s COO Jan Salling will be one of the speakers at a new Nordic-only screening showcase at MipTV next month.
