Sony Pictures Television Buys U.K. TV Banner Silver River Productions
British company behind feature length documentary "Elizabeth Taylor – The Queen of Diamonds" and anit-cosmetic surgery series "Say No to the Knife" to continue operation from London.
LONDON -- Sony Pictures Television has snapped up a majority stake in British TV producer banner Silver River Productions, the primetime program maker behind The Town That Never Retired (BBC1), Elizabeth Taylor – The Queen of Diamonds (Channel 4) and Sergeant On Spike (ITV1).
SPT also said its sales and distribution division will now be tasked with repping Silver River output and formats internationally as next month’s MIP TV in Cannes looms.
Topping the fresh additions to Sony’s MIP sales slate will be feature length documentary Elizabeth Taylor – The Queen of Diamonds and anit-cosmetic surgery series Say No to the Knife.
Silver River Productions, headed by Daisy Goodwin, currently develops and makes content across genres such as factual, features, arts, documentaries, entertainment, comedy and drama.
Sony said the deal indicates Sony’s ambitions to continue expanding international production.
Both sides were mum about the price tag for the deal, but Silver River’s revenue for this year is expected to be around $20 million (£12 million). Under the deal, SPT will take over worldwide sales of Silver River’s catalogue from FremantleMedia.
Goodwin will continue to lead Silver River Productions as president from its existing London office, and now reports to SPT president, international production Andrea Wong.
Founded by Goodwin in 2005, Silver River’s previous output include Pulling, Supersizers, Grow Your Own Drugs and Inside Gatwick.
Silver River Productions is SPT’s third UK production venture, joining Gogglebox Entertainment and Victory Television.
